Domaine Philippe Chéron Vosne-Romanée, Les Barreaux

Perhaps the most intriguing wine in the Chéron lineup, Les Barreaux comes from a site surrounded by some of the most famous vineyards in the world. Itself classified as “village”, the vineyard sits directly above the Grand Cru Richebourg and is surrounded by the nearly Grand Cru quality 1er crus, Cros Parentoux and Aux Brulées. Chéron's neighbors include many of the most famed producers in Burgundy including Méo-Camuzet, E. Rouget, Leroy and DRC. The soil is tremendously rocky, making the vines struggle to take root. Exposure is slightly more Northern than its neighbors, possibly explaining its status as a village lieu-dit. The vines are over 50 years old. Each block is manually harvested and sorted twice, once in the vineyard and once in the winery. After a 10 day cold soak, the wine is fermented for 20 days with natural yeasts, with the cap punched down daily. It is aged on the lees in 50% new oak barrels for 10- ‐14 months before bottling with minimal racking and no fining. This is a rare opportunity to access some of the most renowned terroir in the world at village level pricing.
