Domaine Philippe Chéron Chambolle Musigny, Les Clos de l’Orme

Philippe Chéron Chambolle Musigny Les Clos de l’Orme could be mistaken for a 1er Cru; indeed, the lieu dit is adjacent to 1er Cru “Les Charmes” and one could be forgiven for perceiving them as peer quality. Chéron farms the site with organic and biodynamic methods, with strict yield management to cultivate complex fruit. In the cellar, he hews to Jayer methods including long cold soak of whole berries to maximize full expression of the fruit and the varietal aromas of the Pinot Noir. The wines are aged in French Oak, roughly 50% new, on the lees for 10-14 months, with aging continuing at least three months after the end of malolactic fermentation. The result is an impeccably sourced, cellar-worthy red Burgundy that’s poised for true greatness.
