Sinatra would approve.

It's been so long since Chianti faded from American life, that by now many people have actually never tried it.

So instead of framing it in the context of Chianti of yore, when it was a staple in every Italian restaurant serving spaghetti on red-and-white gingham tablecloths with Sinatra playing in the background, a memory of which only the wise elders will possess, we can let all that go and talk about the category as it is today.

That’s good news for those of us who are tapping into the new guard of Chianti, winemakers who are reimagining this every day favorite as a beacon of quality and value. Today we can find Chianti as it was meant to be – a lip-smackingly delicious wine that exists to be an extension of the table, paired with favorite comfort foods.

Indeed, Chianti's native charms are probably why our Romignano Chianti "Botteghino" DOCG features as a BTG in hip Italian restaurants dotted along the California coast. This wine is 100% pure Sangiovese made transparently--organic grapes fermented with natural yeasts aged in stainless steel to preserve the fresh tart cherry fruit so cherished of the variety. It has mouthwatering acidity, dried herbs and dusty earth with a slight bitterness that makes it an ideal match for pasta, pizza or virtually anything you throw at it.

Being pure and transparent as it is, Romignano Chianti has the advantage of near-perfect, long growing seasons from its location in Val d’Arno di Sopra, where the mountains of Chianti Classico and the Patromagno massif of the Apennines create cooling winds that offset the Tuscan warmth. Indeed, this region is so outstanding that it is the first ever in Tuscany to be confident enough to mandate organic farming for wines carrying its appellation. (Winemaker Riccardo Rossi is content to label his Chianti DOCG, to keep it simple for his customers.)

All this is why Romignano Chianti "Botteghino" is a wine that transcends old tropes, to be a delicious wine with a sense of place and true winemaking. As Sinatra might say, it hits all the right notes!

The one thing that hasn’t changed is the accessible price -- Romignano Chianti "Botteghino" is one of the best values in the market.
