Fontaine du Clos Vacqueyras

Like the Chateauneuf du Pape of 15 years ago, this Vacqueyras shows pleasing restraint. Delicate and charming nose of mocha and pepper followed by strawberry and raspberry jam.  The palate is round, ample, fleshy with nice tannins.

Varietals: 50% Grenache, 40% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre

Vineyards: Qualitative « Terroir » of the “garrigues of Vacqueyras”. Stony, calcareous-clayey soil with a big proportion of round smooth pebbles.

Farming: Sustainable

Vinification: Hand harvested by end September. Total de-stemming. The two varieties are vinified separately. Traditional and ancestral vinification, during 21 days on marc, with two daily pumping over and under controlled temperature.

Aging: The Grenache are aged in tanks on fine lies, and the Syrah in oak barrels, before blending and bottling.
