The Real Deal
You would probably lose count of the Sonoma Pinots hailed as "true to place", "organically farmed", "Burgundy inspired", "made in the vineyard.” But only a rare few embody these characteristics as truly as Porter Creek Fiona Hill Pinot Noir.
Fiona Hill sits next to historic Westside Road, the birthplace of Russian River Pinot Noir, on a south-facing, hillside of Porter Creek’s estate.
Fiona Hill has been farmed organically for two decades in Alex's quest to create a true-to-place wine—a philosophy he embraced after apprenticing in Burgundy with Roumier in the 1990s.
Organic farming on hillside vineyards is an expensive, manual, laborious task, and Alex goes even beyond that with Biodynamic farming.
His approach to "non-interventionist" winemaking is holistic—including vinifying with native yeasts, using blankets (yes, blankets ) to warm the tanks, and, the rare occasion that he fines, he uses organic egg whites from his own free range poultry flock.
By the way, Alex has been making wine this way since the 1990s - he's not motivated by any trend or fashion. Alex Davis is the real deal.
There's no better feeling offering wines from small family growers who do everything right. And when the wine is classic, timeless, and outrageously good, there's no reason not to.
Flagship. The real deal. What more could you ask for?
