Reviews
• Robert Parker: 91 The Cerbaia 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is aged in oak for three years and was still undergoing bottling aging when I tasted this sample. Even at this young stage, the wine offers a broad bouquet with a wide span of fruit flavors. Those aromas do need a few extra minutes to open before they come into full display. Black cherry, dried blackberry and plum segue to spice, leather and scorched earth. This is a robustly textured and enriched expression from a vintage that produced few wines that can claim this pretty level of intensity. Some 8,000 bottles were made. Ironically, I like this wine (from a challenging vintage) more than I have liked past vintages from much easier years. The house style prizes fruit ripeness, and that has definitely played in favor of this cool growing season.
• Wine Enthusiast: 90 Fragrant purple-flower, tilled earth, crushed sage, leather and wild-berry aromas follow over to the tight palate along with dried cherry, blood orange and star anise. It's linear and shows the austere nature of the cool wet vintage but it also has enough fruit and tension to improve over the next several years. Drink 2022–2029.
• JamesSuckling.com: 92 This offers an array of quite bright red plums and berries with a gently earthy and leafy edge, as well as some woody, anise-like spice. The palate carries a gently grainy array of tannins that carry smooth, juicy, strawberry-tinged fruit. Nice grip to close. Drink or hold.
